Anna Taylor is a first time State Qualifier as a Freshman. She hit a solid vault and scored a 9.0, taking a few steps on the landing, it was a great ending to her first BHS season. She placed 20th.
Jordyn Thomas is a second time State Qualifier as a Sophomore. We started on Beam, where Jordyn had an uncharacteristic fall on her back handspring, back layout series. The rest of the routine was solid and she still managed an 8.925 and 19th place. Next, we went to Floor where she came out with a vengeance. She hit her routine for a personal high score of 9.475 to win 1st place, becoming the second State Champion in program history! We went to Vault, and while her first vault was solid, her second vault was big enough to score a 9.4 and tie for 5th Place. Last, we went to bars, and her warm up routines were great. When it came time to compete, her release from high bar to low bar went a little long, causing her to hit her feet, costing .3-.5. She fought to finish the routine strong and score another 8.925, placing 14th. Overall, while it wasn’t a “perfect” day, her grit and big Floor and Vault scores helped to earn a very respectable 6th place finish in the All Around.
Congratulations, Jordyn and Anna! We can’t wait to see what you, and the rest of the girls, can accomplish in 2019-2020!
