The Blue Devils Varsity Gymnastics Team is on their way to OHSAA State Championship! For the first time since 2001-2002, a BHS Gymnastics Team qualified to back-to-back State Meets. The bulk of this team also placed 6th in 2019, the year before the NorthEast District was able to advance six teams, instead of the top five, due to the depth in this area of Ohio.

We started the District Tournament on Vault. This rotation was highlighted by Anna Taylor, placing 4th, and advancing to Saturday’s Individual Competition. She was followed closely by Jordyn Thomas’ 6th place finish. Other solid vaults that helped the team were from Lana Dakdouk and Alexis Clark, to round out a second place team finish on the event.

Moving to Bars, it was Jordyn Thomas’ record setting 9.7 bar routine, and first place finish, that was the talk of the meet. She hit a gorgeous routine and finished first on the event. Emma Gray also hit her routine to add some depth to the team, when we needed it most. Lilijana Kotar and Alexis Clark fought to hang on to earn solid scores, despite mistakes, to contribute to the team’s accomplishment. Lexie Barton also hit her routine.

Another shining moment of the meet was a season-high team beam score. Jordyn had a solid routine, finishing first on the event. Alaina Timko redeemed herself in a big way, from her uncharacteristic fall at Sectionals, to hit a PR on the season. KaraBeth Nemet set the tone as the leadoff gymnast and put out a pretty 9+ routine. Lilijana Kotar rounded out the team contributors. Hailey Messer, also added depth to the line up.

We finished the meet with a rough floor rotation, but held on to the top three status. We were lead by Jordyn Thomas’ 3rd place routine. KaraBeth Nemet, Lana Dakdouk, and Alexis Clark also put out solid showings to contribute to the team.

Jordyn Thomas finished the day as repeat District All Around Champion, making it to States on all four events, and All Around. While, Anna Taylor will represent Brunswick on Vault.

The team will compete together on Friday, March 5th in Columbus to go for it all! Let’s GO Big Blue!
