Boys Varsity Golf · Greiner, Heilbrun Lead Blue Devils at Districts

  Place Points
Brunswick High School 14th 328

The Blue Devils varsity golf team sat in sixth place after nine holes on Monday, positioning themselves to compete for a state spot on the back nine. After about a 45 minute delay at the turn, the 10th and 11th holes proved to be the difference for Brunswick, as the team lost 17 shots on those two holes combined, eventually finishing the OHSAA district tournament with a team score of 328 and a 14th place finish. Clay Greiner stepped up in a big way, shooting a season low 77, which was 3 shots short of qualifying individually. Greiner’s round had many highlights, but maybe none as impressive as his tee shot on the par 3 16th, which landed about 4 feet from the hole. Greiner also added birdies on holes 3 and 13. Alex Heilbrun turned at 37 after carding a birdie on the par 4 3rd, sticking his wedge to a foot. He added a birdie on the par 5 15th as well. Kyle Goessler ended his stellar senior season with an 85. He drained a 20 footer on the par 5 7th for his only birdie of the day. Chase Safko shot 87 to round out the scoring for the Blue Devils. Cody Merrill added a 91, his lowest 18 hole score of the season. The Brunswick boys golf program has a lot to be proud of in 2018 and a lot to look forward to in the coming years with the impressive play from the underclassmen this season. Go Big Blue!
