The 7th grade South boys basketball team travelled to Hyre Middle School on Wednesday night and came away with a 38-36 victory. This moved the Blue Devils to 9-2 overall this season. Hyre came out in a 1-2-2 trapping defense that was effective for the majority of the game. The Blue Devils were down 11-2 after the first quarter and never led until the fourth. With the score tied at 36, Hyre got a fast break layup opportunity. Diego Castillo sprinted from the opposite side of the floor and made the biggest play of the season defensively, taking our first charge of the year. The Blue Devils called a timeout and set up a play that the team executed perfectly, getting Quinn Barnett a layup with about 4 seconds left on the clock. The Hawks couldn’t counter, ending the game at 38-36. Great effort by all players in the win! The 7th grade boys will be back in action on Tuesday of next week, as they travel to Elyria Westwood Middle School. Go Big Blue!
