Brunswick, Ohio – The Brunswick High School Men’s Soccer Team defeated the Pioneers of Elyria, to open up GCC play, by the score of 10-0. Brunswick now has a season record of 2-1-1 and 1-0-0 in the GCC. Elyria, after starting the season 3-0-0, is now 3-2-0 and 0-2-0 in the GCC. Brunswick continues to lead the historical series between the sides, 12-0-5.
In the first half, Brunswick came out on a mission to avenge last year’s draw and scored six consecutive goals to lead 6-0 at the halftime whistle. Junior midfielder Logan Scherer scored the game winner just two minutes into the game. Senior midfielder and captain Justin Hagler scored four and junior midfielder and captain Cole Parete added another.
In the second half, the Blue Devils were just as dominant with Parete and Scherer scoring another goal. Junior midfielder Donovan Ambrosio scored his first career goal and added a second late, to round out the scoring.
Coach Dotson was satisfied with result but more excited about the mentality. “Last year taught us some lessons, we let that team hang around and it cost us. Needless to say, that did not happen tonight.”
Junior goalkeeper Gavyn Ernst made two saves in the win, bringing his season record to 2-1-1. He earned his second clean sheet of the season. For Eyria, Brandon Lowery made four saves. His record stands at 3-2-0.
Dotson was very happy with freshman Jake Graham who earned Man of the Match Honors. “Jake was fantastic all night, cutting out angles and really shielding our backline from danger tonight. Very proud of his play.”
Brunswick next plays when they play host to district rival Wooster on Saturday night at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
