The Brunswick Blue Devils Gymnastics Team has been on a record setting pace all season having broke the school team score record on three occasions throughout the 2019-2020 season. Having captured the sectional championship and a district runner-up in consecutive weekends, the Blue Devils made their 6th trip (1996, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2016, and now 2020) to the state team competition. The Devils did not disappoint breaking the school record for a fourth time finishing with a team score of 144.375 narrowly edging out 2019 State Runner-Up Thornville Sheridan (143.425) and only finishing behind Brecksville-Broadview Hts. (148.350) who captured their 17th consecutive State Championship. The Blue Devils previous high place at the state meet was the 2016 team who finished 4th.

Thomas (37.75) and Kotar (35.35) competed in all events, but the depth the Blue Devils showed having 9 competitors, 7 scoring on the evening played a major factor in the teams 2nd place finish.
Thomas already having bested every individual school record at some point during the 19/20 season broke her own record on the bars with a 9.55. As the defending floor exercise state champion, she will be competing tomorrow in the individual state meet in all four events and the all around.
The state runner-up finish is the school’s 3rd runner-up finish (1980 Wrestling & 1995 Football).
Go Big Blue!
