Blue Devils News · BCSD Athletics Update

On May 21st, the OHSAA announced that the no contact period for all sports would be lifted on May 26th to align with the State of Ohio’s opening of low/no contact sports.  Previously the OHSAA had announced the lifting of the no contact period in baseball, golf, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, and track & field as those were considered “low/no contact sports”.  All remaining sports will be permitted to begin conditioning and skill training  when we return.

On May 22nd, the OHSAA provided schools with the following guidance regarding return to open protocols for interscholastic athletics https://ohsaaweb.blob.core.windows.net/files/SchoolResources/OHSAAGuidance2020.pdf?sv=2017-04-17&sr=b&si=DNNFileManagerPolicy&sig=gdjEL5qf3lIkC%2BCHeGJBvtkcBzZez%2FwVWX0fSeFDnBA%3D.  We suggest families take a moment to review these so you are familiar with the restrictions that will be in place.

While many of the restrictions regarding participation, facilities, etc. are to be lifted on May 26th, we ask for your patience as we, as well as almost all schools across the state are taking the guidance we have been provided and implementing procedures and protocols to make sure we have a safe environment for our student athletes to return.  All BCSD athletic facilities (including the stadium, fields, batting cages, etc.) remain closed at this time.  The athletic department along with our Cleveland Clinic athletic trainers have been preparing for a number of weeks for the potential return to participation.  Now that there is more clear guidance, we ask for your patience as we finalize those procedures and protocols.  We look forward to sharing with you in the near future what our plan to begin our athletics off-season will look like and when that may start.  This is an exciting time and we appreciate your patience.

In the meantime, we would suggest families familiarize themselves with the Responsible Re-Start Guidelines provided by the State of Ohio that can be found at https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/responsible-restart-ohio/Sector-Specific-Operating-Requirements/.

Uniform/Equipment Drop Off:
We would like to thank our student athletes and their families for a very successful uniform return.  We received almost all spring uniforms returned that had been distributed for the season.  We do ask that if you still have a uniform from any sport from 2019-2020, please return to the athletic office M-F 8:00-3:00.  Uniforms not returned will have costs applied to individual student fees.

Please email Mr. Justice (jjustice@bcsoh.org) with questions regarding high school athletics, and Mr. Braskie (bbraskie@bcsoh.org) with questions regarding middle school athletics.

Stay Healthy.  Stay Safe.  Go Big Blue!
