Senior captain and midfielder Antonio Demonte (above) led the Blue Devils to an opening night win over Valley Forge with four goals.
Parma, Ohio – The Brunswick High School Men’s Soccer Team won on opening night by a score of 12-2 over hosting Valley Forge High School. Brunswick moves to 1-0-0 on the young season, while Valley Forge moves to 0-2-0.
In the first half, the Blue Devil offense came out firing on all cylinders and scored nine times. Junior midfielder Garrett Shay scored the opening tally just 55 seconds into the match off an assist from senior captain and midfielder Nick Felician. Following Shay’s opening goal, Senior captain and midfielder Antonio Demonte proved to be the main catalyst as he found the net four different times.
Six different Blue Devils scored in the first half. In addition to Shay, Felician and Demonte, senior midfielder Jake Hoffmaster, sophomore midfielder Justin Hagler and freshman midfielder Cole Parete tallied. For Hagler and Parete, they marked their official varsity debuts with goals. Contributing assists in the first half were Felician (3), senior captain and defender Kyle Wolf, junior defender Nate Bohrer, Hoffmaster and Parete.
In the second half, the Blue Devil offense picked up right where it left off. Less than a minute in the half, Felician played a through ball to fellow senior captain and midfielder Nick Demonte who blasted it into the roof of the net. He passes former Blue Devil great and former All-Great Lakes Region selection, Jesse Marinaro ’14, who now plays at John Carroll University.
Valley Forge however, would not go quietly into the night as two unassisted goals from Matt Davidson caught the Blue Devils off guard to make the score 10-2.
The Blue Devils would tack on two late goals from junior midfielder Ryan Utrup and Shay to complete the scoring for the evening. Utrup assisted on Shay’s goal, while Hagler assisted on Utrup’s. The points tonight for Utrup were the first in his varsity career.

Coach Dotson was pleased following the match. “I thought our senior captains did a nice job in preparing the boys to play tonight. They came out and were ready to go from the whistle and put the game away early.”
