(Box Score versus Revere)

Brunswick, Ohio – The Brunswick High School Men’s Soccer Team drew with traditional-rival Revere Saturday night with a 1-1 scoreline. Brunswick overall record stands at to 11-0-3 overall.  Revere is now at  9-3-3 overall.    The historical series is now 3-4-4 in favor of the Minutemen.

Early in the first half, neither side could take advantage of any scoring chances.  Of those chances, Brunswick did dominate in shots (7-2) and corners (4-1).

However, with one minute remaining, senior forward Cory Gilbert found some space behind the Minutemen backline and was played through by junior All-GCC midfielder Nick Felician.  Gilbert chipped the goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Blue Devils continued to dominate but were unable to add to their lead.  Despite that domination, it was Revere would tie the game late with under six minutes left as they were awarded a penalty kick that Sam Milazzo converted.

Moments later, the Blue Devils were awarded a penalty as well, off a handball from a Revere defender.  However, the referee changed his mind and awarded a corner kick.
Moments later, the referee blew the final whistle and the match ended a draw.

Coach Dotson was less than pleased with the performance but was opportunistic about the next game.  “We did not perform to our best abilities tonight.  Sure, the result on paper looks quality, but we know we could have played better.  We have a big chance to improve on Tuesday when we go for our first non-shared conference title in 19 years.”

Dotson continued…”More importantly, tonight we honored one of our biggest fans tonight.”  The team wore blue warm-up shirts to give support to a 2016 graduate Josh Herron who is now battling his second stint of cancer.  “The boys came to me with an idea of wanting to support Josh by wearing shirts and we really wanted to do it.  The amount of community support within our team is overwhelming.  We sincerely hope that this little share of support makes him just a little stronger.”

The Blue Devils go for that non-shared conference title on Tuesday when they travel to arch-rival Medina.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Memorial Stadium.
