Brunswick, Ohio – The Brunswick High School Men’s Soccer Team won over traditional-rival Kenston Saturday night, a dominant 4-0 victory. With the win, Brunswick improves to 7-0-2 overall. Kenston drops to 3-4-0 overall. Brunswick now leads the historical series between the sides with two wins and one draw.
Brunswick scored two goals on each side of halftime and dominated throughout.
Sophomore midfielder Garrett Shay got the Blue Devils on the board at the 14:19 mark of the first half. Senior forward Allen Gronert played a perfect ball across the penalty area that Shay snapped into the lower right corner for the early lead. Less than a minute later, junior all-GCC midfielder Nick Felician doubled the advantage after getting on the end of throw-in from Kyle Wolf. The junior defender’s Herculean throw found Felician alone in the box. Felician’s headed effort went past Bomber goalkeeper Zach Fritz at the back post.
Brunswick would carry the two goal lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Brunswick picked right up where they left off in the 49th minute. Felician scored off a free-kick past Fritz to put the game at 3-0. In the 58th minute, junior midfielder Antonio Demonte would score his second goal of the season in spectacular fashion. After receiving a pass from senior defender Ben Clouse, Demonte would blast a rocket from 35 yards to make the score 4-0.
The goal capped a brilliant night for Demonte. Coach Dotson was esactic at his play. “Antonio was everywhere tonight. He won countless balls in the air, was great in distribution and scored a fantastic goal. He told me before the game how good he was feeling good for this game, and was he ever right. Top notch performance tonight for that young man.”
Demonte did win Man of the Match Honors for his performance.
Senior goalkeeper and captain Gavin Leindecker started the match but could not finish after sustaining an injury off a collision in the first half. Senior midfielder Cory Gilbert took Leindecker’s place in goal, earning the win and the clean sheet. The Blue Devil defense was dominant as Gilbert did not have to make a save on the night. Fritz took the loss despite making two saves.
Leindecker will be evaluated early next week on his injury.
Brunswick moves on to play Elyria this coming Tuesday for Greater Cleveland Conference action. The match is set for 4:30 pm at the Elyria Pioneer Soccer Complex.
