Elyria, Ohio – The Brunswick High School Men’s Soccer Team won over conference-rival Elyria Tuesday evening, a dominant 4-0 victory. With the win, Brunswick improves to 8-0-2 overall and 4-0-0 in the GCC.  Elyria drops to 1-4-1 overall and 1-3-0 n the GCC.    Brunswick now leads the historical series between the sides with nine wins and four draws.

Brunswick came out on fire, scoring four goals in the first stanza to put the game to bed by halftime.

Brunswick scored the game-winner in the exact same fashion as in their previous game versus Kenston.  Sophomore midfielder Garrett Shay got on the end of a pass from senior forward Allen Gronert.  Shay easily found the back of the net past Sebastian Del Coral for the early 1-0 lead.

Moments later, junior midfielder Nick Demonte doubled the goal tally.  Sophomore forward Collin Parete played a cross to Demonte who beat a defender and then the goalkeeper for the 2-0 scoreline.  The point was the first of Parete’s young varsity career.

In the 23rd minute, junior Kyle Wolf would find the head of Gronert on a throw-in.  Gronert would nick the ball over Del Coral for the 3-0 lead.

Junior All-GCC midfielder Nick Felician would close out the scoring in the 36th minute from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Brunswick put the game on ice with solid possession and coasted to a 4-0 final score.

Senior midfielder Cory Gilbert, starting in place of injured starter Gavin Leindecker, earned the win and the clean sheet for the second consecutive match.  Gilbert made five saves.  His season record now stands at 2-0-0 with two clean sheets.  Del Coral took the loss despite making six saves.

Gronert earned Man of the Match honors for his goal and assist performance.

Coach Dotson was very proud of Gronert’s play.  “Allen has been big all season.  He is a senior who gets big minutes in reserve, but he makes them all count.  He’s tied for second in points and has embraced his role all season.  He makes our team so much better because of our depth off the bench.  Any other team, he’s a starter.  It takes special player to take a back seat for the betterment of the team.  Tonight was no exception as he was dangerous all game and provided us a offensive threat off the bench again. ”

The Blue Devils are off for a week after a five games in 10 day stretch.  They next play next Tuesday in Greater Cleveland Conference action against the Cardinals of Mentor.    The match is set for 7:00 pm at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium.
